There are definitely some interesting things here and there in this series. A few sparks from the characters and a bit of the world building are what have me wanting to read the sequel eventually. I do hope, though, that there is more dialog in the second book. I feel there was a bit too much focus on the details, mundane details mind you, that I didn't care a whole lot about the characters. They had their lines here and there, but it was never anything at length. Just a few short lines to move a scene along and that's it.
If you've read The Lies of Locke Lamora you'll definitely find this book lacking, but it's still worth a read.
